Minnesota FoodShare
Minnesota FoodShare’s March Campaign is a long-standing program of the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches that has successfully raised more than 460 million pounds of food to help feed hungry Minnesotans over the past 26 years. Second Harvest Heartland is pleased to support Minnesota FoodShare and to offer our help as it strives to raise 10 million pounds and dollars this March to feed our hungry friends and neighbors.
We know that hunger exists in Minnesota. Data from the USDA Food Security Report identifies it, and individuals and families are turning to food shelves, meal programs, food banks, and the federal nutrition programs for help. Over the last several months, our member agencies have identified a double-digit growth in the number of individuals requesting hunger assistance. The need has never been greater than it is at this moment. And because of the Missing Meals project, we now understand the gap: we are 125 million meals away from feeding every hungry Minnesotan.
Together, we can address the problem of food insecurity and hunger and ensure that all low-income people in Minnesota have access to three meals a day, 365 days a year. Step-by-step, meal-by-meal, and dollar-by-dollar, we can fill the gap.
Second Harvest Heartland is pleased to announce Target Corporation has contributed 600,000 pounds of food to begin filling the gap. With the generosity of corporations like Target and individuals like you, we are happy to announce we exceeded our 1 million pounds and dollars goal for Minnesota FoodShare this year. Thank you for your support!
